Manchester United legend Gary Neville took to Instagram to mock Liverpool following their shock defeat to Nottingham Forest.

The Reds suffered the first defeat of Arne Slot’s tenure as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Forest, with Callum Hudson-Odoi scoring in the 72nd minute.

There was further good news earlier in the day for Neville, with his beloved United enjoying a 3-0 victory away to Southampton.

Matthijs De Ligt put United ahead with his first goal for the club before Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho got on the scoresheet.

In addition, Salford, who Neville owns 10 per cent of, beat Cheltenham 2-1 at home in League Two, with Hakeeb Adelakun scoring a brace including an 86th minute winner.

Gary Neville commented on a ‘perfect weekend’ after Man United and Salford won while Liverpool lost

He then laughed before remarking that it was a ‘beautiful weekend’.

Despite Liverpool’s defeat, however, they remain in second place in the Premier League and are three points ahead of United.

Slot’s side will be looking to return to winning ways when they face AC Milan away in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Salford are in 13th place in League Two having won two, drawn two and lost one of their five games so far this season.

As well as Neville, fellow former United players David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes also each own 10 per cent of the club.
