Jhon Duran called Bayern Munich the ‘club of my dreams’ after firing Aston Villa to victory against the Bavarian giants.

Despite enjoying a flying start to the campaign Duran has made just one start in all competitions for Unai Emery’s side, and was again on the bench as Villa Park played host to the Bundesliga club.

With the score still level at 0-0 heading into the closing stages, the 20-year-old was brought on to replace Ollie Watkins and promptly continued his incredible form in front of goal.

After a lofted through ball out of defence from Pau Torres, Duran caught Manuel Neuer off his line and scooped his strike over the goalkeeper to send the crowd into pandemonium.

Speaking following the game Duran described the experience of scoring such a crucial goal as dreamlike.

Unai Emery’s side are unbeaten in their return to Europe’s premier club competition

‘I feel happy to be able to score, and even more so against a great team like Bayern Munich, which is the club of my dreams,’ he said. ‘

‘I am happy to be the man of the match against this team, which was also my dream.’

The 20-year-old has now netted six times in all competitions for the Villans this season, marking a remarkable turnaround after he appeared destined to depart the clubs this summer.

West Ham were one of several clubs interested in signing the forward, and he appeared to make his preferred destination clear by sharing a photo on social media of him crossing his arms in an apparent nod to the Hammers’ crest.

Duran ultimately remained at Villa and Emery subsequently insisted the Colombian international would have to show patience as he awaited an opportunity to showcase his ability.

With the transfer saga now behind him, Duran shared his appreciation for the club’s fanbase.

‘I think it’s all part of the job, being focused, waiting for the opportunity and taking advantage of the moment.’ Duran continued.

Duran also detailed his relationship with Villa fans after he tried to seal a move away from the club this summer

‘I thank the fans that have had me since I arrived, we’ve had a couple of disagreements, but I think we’re on good terms now and I’m happy that they give me that affection and love.’

Duran will look to continue his prolific start to the season when a struggling Man United side travel to the West Midlands on Sunday.
