The son of former Chelsea star Eidur Gudjohnsen lined up against the Blues on Thursday night with hopes of inflicting a defeat on his dad’s old side.

Gudjohnsen made 263 appearances for the west London club during a glittering six-year spell. The versatile forward got his hands on two Premier League trophies and was a crucial member of Jose Mourinho’s side that took the league by storm.

The Icelandic hero left the club in 2006 for Barcelona, where he lifted the Champions League and helped himself to a LaLiga title.

Eighteen years on, his son Andri Gudjohnsen lined up against Enzo Maresca’s side in the Conference League at Stamford Bridge.

The 22-year-old, who was born in London, said in an interview with the BBC ahead of the game: ‘I remember glimpses of those victories.

Eidur Gudjohnsen was part of Jose Mourinho’s side that won back-to-back Premier League title in 2005 and 2006

‘The first thing I did was call my father. He already knew. It’s special for me and for him. I was born when my father played there; it’s kind of a unique draw.’

The striker has been in decent form this season, scoring twice from his eight appearances in the Belgium top flight.

Gudjohnsen signed with the side from Danish outfit Lyngby in the summer. He already has 26 caps at international lever for Iceland, scoring six goals.

Gent are huge underdogs against the Blues, who named a completely changed starting XI from the one that blew Brighton away at the weekend. Even with the extensive alterations, Maresca has been able to call upon several internationals and big-money signings.
