Dominic Solanke has returned to the England squad after a seven-year absence, with the Tottenham star being included in Lee Carsley’s selection for the upcoming games at home to Greece and away to Finland.
Solanke’s only previous appearance for England at senior level came in November 2017, shortly after his move to Liverpool.Â
The striker came on for the final 15 minutes as England drew 0-0 away to Brazil.
The England setup has changed considerably in the ensuing period. Aside from Solanke, only Kyle Walker, John Stones and Jordan Pickford (who was an unused substitute against Brazil) are in the current squad and were also in the squad for that game.
Jamie Vardy, who hasn’t played for England since 2018, started against Brazil, with Jake Livermore and Ruben Loftus-Cheek also featuring.Â

Other players that started included Joe Hart, Walker, Joe Gomez, Stones, Harry Maguire, Ryan Bertrand, Eric Dier and Marcus Rashford.
Danny Rose, Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard and Tammy Abraham joined Solanke in featuring as substitutes.

Seven players in the current England squad were still at school back in 2017, with Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke, Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill, Jude Bellingham, Rico Lewis and Kobbie Mainoo all falling into that category.
After playing against Brazil, Solanke continued to feature for England at Under-21 level.
He previously won the U20 World Cup with England in 2017, with Ezri Konsa and Dean Henderson also part of that squad.Â
