Karen Carney has slammed Bruno Fernandes for lacking ‘control’ and ‘showing frustration’ after the Manchester United captain was sent off again in the Red Devils’ chaotic Europa League draw with Porto.
The Portuguese followed up his dismissal against Tottenham on Sunday, which has since been rescinded, with another tonight as his side rescued a 3-3 draw thanks to a late strike from Harry Maguire.
This time Fernandes earned two yellow cards, the second coming when he raised his boot high to try to get on the end of a cross in the six-yard box with United 3-2 down.
And pundit Carney has taken a dim view of the midfielder’s decision-making and insisted that he can have no complaints over the sending off.
‘There’s no question for me on this one. When he hangs his foot up so high, I don’t know why he hasn’t gone with his head, but that is a yellow card as well. So there’s no complaints.

‘Ok, he had an overturn the other day but that’s two back to back red cards now for the Manchester United captain. That’s the control element that you need and it wasn’t there tonight.
‘It is frustration. I’m frustrated every time I watch them. I couldn’t imagine playing in it. If the captain can’t have control that may be a way of showing his frustration. You can’t ignore it. It’s frustration.’
