Former Man United flop could ‘leave’ his new club after just ONE month as ‘problems arise’ over star’s £9m-per-year salary

A former Manchester United flop could be set to have his contract torn up at his new club after just one month, according to reports.

The ranks of ex-United stars deciding to leave European football increased again during the summer as several former Premier League pros headed to the Middle East and South America.

Now, one of those that failed to make the grade at Old Trafford is appearing to be falling short of standards at his new club as well.

Memphis Depay was previously tipped to become one of the Premier League’s most formidable talents when he made a £25m switch to the club in 2015.

However, only two years later the Dutchman found himself heading to French side Lyon after struggling with consistency and dips in form across two-years in Manchester.

Memphis Depay joined Brazilian side Corinthians just a month ago when he signed a two-year deal

The 30-year-old became a free agent at the end of last season following the expiration of his contract at Atletico Madrid and was without a new team for most of the summer.

Depay had previously made the decision to cut ties with representation agencies and instead decided to navigate his future career moves himself as several offers were made.

A £9m-per-year agreement was finally concluded with Brazilian side Corinthians who offered Depay a lucrative two-year contract that made him one of the league’s highest-paid stars.

However, an issue with the source of the company paying his salary could now lead to Depay’s stint in Brazil being cut short by 23 months, as reported by The Sun.

A betting sponsor called Esportes da Sorte make contributions to Depay’s wage and are now in a precarious position over their ability to prove available funds after being denied a state licence.

One option is for Corinthians to terminate Depay’s contract early instead of attempting to find other revenue streams to keep the Netherlands international.

Depay has so far registered two assists across four games in the Brazilian top-flight.
