Barrow’s players have reportedly been offered a bigger bonus if they lose their Carabao Cup tie against Chelsea than if they win.Â
The League two side travel to Stamford Bridge in the third round of the competition on September 24 and will seek to shock the Blues.Â
However, according to the Telegraph Barrow players have been given an incentive to underperform in the match, raising doubts over the integrity of the Carabao Cup.Â
Barrow will pay their players ÂŁ1000 if they lose in west London and just ÂŁ250 if they manage to pull off a huge upset.Â
The same outlet report that the club has declined to comment, claiming that the bonus document contains errors which will be corrected.Â

Meanwhile, the organisers of the competition the English Football League have also refused to comment but are said to be unimpressed with Barrow’s bonus scheme.Â
Barrow’s bonus system is not said to breach regulations but the EFL have asked for an explanation given that it’s the first time they’ve encountered such issue.Â
The Bluebirds are understood to have contacted the EFL and reassured them that they will change their bonus scheme.Â
Bonuses must be agreed between club and players before the start of the season, with the EFL then made aware of details.Â
