Alisson has admitted Liverpool needed ‘extra’ energy after last season – and heaped praise on manager Arne Slot.

The Reds have started the season impressively under the Dutchman, with Saturday’s win over Wolves taking them to five victories in six league matches.

Slot took over from Jurgen Klopp this summer after the German called time on his time at Anfield after nine years in charge.

Despite winning the Carabao Cup last season, Liverpool were left frustrated after launching a title challenge just to fall short in the last weeks of the campaign.

Alisson says he’s relishing life under Slot and says the new manager has given them extra impetus to succeed this season.

The Brazilian says Arne Slot has brought ‘new energy’ and praised his work so far this season

‘I am finding it fantastic,’ the Brazilian goalkeeper said. ‘We see that he wants to improve the players, and in doing that he is improving the team. He is trying to get the best out of every individual and making us better.

‘We were good before and great before at some times, but we got to a point where we needed to have this extra push. Arne is bringing to us his new energy.

He’s bringing us not only energy but knowledge, his knowledge on football. He is a really smart manager, really smart head coach and he is helping us a lot.

‘You can see from the way we are playing now, I think everybody is seeing that. Also, his staff like to work hard and they are showing to us that their way to do things is the best way that (we) can have now.

‘So we are committed to that, we are committed to the plan and us players are seeing that it is a good plan. I’m really happy with the direction that everything is going.’

Liverpool sit a point clear at the top of the Premier League table and through to the last-16 of the Carabao Cup.

Alot’s side also won their opening Champions League game against AC Milan and will seek to make it two from two when they host Bologna at Anfield on Wednesday.

Alisson says he’s enjoying playing under Slot, who has brought a ‘new energy’ to the Reds

Alisson added: ‘We have to keep pushing. We still have a lot of things to improve as a team, as individuals as well, but we are in the right direction.

‘It’s early in the season. We have a big gap I think to reach our best, but we are doing well so far and we will keep working on the things that we can improve.

‘The start of the season was really good for the team and me individually as well. The first few games were really important (for me), having a short pre-season due to the Copa America and having only a short break.

‘So to start playing, having good results having changed manager and all these kind of changes that can affect a little bit your way of play, I’m glad everything has gone in the right direction. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season because I feel really good.’
