Aston Villa secured a historic victory on the return of Champions League football to Villa Park on Wednesday night, beating German giants Bayern Munich 1-0.
Jhon Duran proved he is the King of Chaos for Unai Emery as he scored after coming off the bench once again, netting late on as his side held on for a shock victory, but how did he rate?
Emiliano Martinez, meanwhile, was the star of the show as he came to the rescue late on, and his performance earns him a solid rating from Mail Sport’s TOM COLLOMOSSE at Villa Park.
As for Villa’s opponents, though, it was the same old story for Harry Kane – who grew frustrated in the game – and that’s reflected in his rating.

Had little to do in the first half until he leapt to his right to tip Michael Olise’s swerving effort over then made even better stops from Gnabry and Kane late on.
Ezri Konsa – 8
Up against such a tricky customer in Coman, Konsa showed what a fine one-on-one defender he is – even though he dislikes playing right-back
Diego Carlos – 6.5
Not many centre-backs would choose to face Harry Kane than Liam Delap but he had an easier time against the England captain than against the Ipswich man last Sunday.
Pau Torres – 7.5
Disappointed to see his goal chalked off for offside, the Spaniard enjoys the European stage, where his occasionally physical fragility is rarely exposed. Fine ball for Duran’s goal.
Lucas Digne – 7
The left-back a good start in both attack and defence though Villa’s high line means no margin for error and there were a couple of hairy moments.
Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was the star of the show for Villa with two big stops late on
Pau Torres thought he had given Villa the lead in the first half, but his strike was ruled out for offside
Jaden Philogene – 7.5
Emery showed huge trust by starting him over Leon Bailey and Philogene repaid him with a performance of great maturity.
Amadou Onana – 6.5
Had his hands on his knees at one stage in the first half after getting through a huge amount of work in the centre of midfield.
Youri Tielemans – 7.5
Villa’s best player during the early weeks of this season, the Belgian delivered again, with one brilliant spin away from Kimmich the highlight.
Jacob Ramsey – 6
Switched off by straying offside in the move that meant Pau Torres’ strike was ruled out for offside and then had to come off injured midway through the first half.
Morgan Rogers – 7
Imprecise during the opening exchanges, he nonetheless grew into the game and was soon testing Bayern by picking the ball up deep and charging at their back four.
Ollie Watkins – 6.5
Drew two fouls from Upamecano that should have seen the Bayern man pick up two bookings. Made sure he used the few chances he had to cause the visitors problems.

Gave the ball away twice soon after coming on and was brutally hauled off just 33 minutes later.
Ian Maatsen (for Bailey, 60) – 6
Sent on by Emery to play in front of Digne and shore up Villa’s left-hand side.
Ross Barkley (for Onana, 60) – 6
Onana had put in a huge shift and looked to be struggling when the Englishman replaced him.

In front of the future King, it was another night to remember for Villa’s very own King of Chaos.

Instructed his team to let Bayern have the ball for the majority of the match and make fast breaks when they regained the ball. It nearly worked.

One dodgy pass went straight to Digne and had the Villa fans urging their man to shoot from 70 yards. All at sea for Torres’ disallowed goal and nowhere to be seen for Duran’s.
Joshua Kimmich – 7.5
Villa could not come to grips with his passing or movement during the early stage and he remains one of the cleverest players in the European game.
Dayot Upamecano – 6
Struggled to handle Watkins and was lucky not to be sent off, somehow escaping a booking for dragging down the England forward as he tried to race clear.
Kim Min-jae – 6.5
Crucial leap at the far post to stop Watkins heading Villa in front. Solid in defence but perhaps not the ball-playing centre-back Kompany needs for this style of play.
Aleksandar Pavlovic – 6.5
Required to link defence and midfield when Bayern had the ball and protect his back line when they did not, he did a broadly competent job.
Konrad Laimer – 7
Showed terrific energy down the Bayern right and his direct running often had Villa back-pedalling, though he was less assured when asked to defend.
Michael Olise – 6.5
The former Crystal Palace man found himself on the fringes of the game for the most part though he came so close to putting Bayern in front shortly before half-time.
Alphonso Davies – 6.5
Tried to combine with Coman in the first half but Konsa and Philogene did a fine job on them. Had few problems going the other way.
Serge Gnabry – 5.5
With Kane waiting for the tap-in, he tried instead to beat Martinez from a tight angle and blasted into the crowd. Thwarted again by the Argentina star at the end.
Harry Kane – 5.5
Would have expected to cause Torres and Carlos more problems than he did.
Kingsley Coman – 5.5
Never managed to find a way past Konsa and was often forced inside, where he also had little joy. Hooked for Musiala at the interval.

Surprisingly left out of the starting XI, he tried to give Bayern something extra in an attacking midfield role.

More of a direct player than Olise, the former Manchester City man gave Digne and Maatsen plenty to think about.

The summer signing from Fulham was asked to perform the same tasks as Pavlovic.
