Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers reminded football fans once again that Cole Palmer stole what has now become the Chelsea superstar’s iconic celebration from him.

Supporters have grown accustomed to watching Palmer bury the ball in the back of the net and to instantly rub his arms as if he’s feeling the winter temperatures.

So when Rogers scored last season for Villa and celebrated in an identical manner, he was essentially labelled a copycat.

Rogers did the same celebration when he scored for Villa in their 2-2 draw against Ipswich last Sunday as well.

But after Villa’s stunning 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League, Rogers wanted to set the record straight.

Morgan Rogers told the TNT panel that Cole Palmer stole his celebration off of him

Rogers first did it when he scored the winner for Middlesbrough against WBA last December

Palmer then copied the celebration seven days later but has now made it his own

When asked if it was true Palmer had stolen his celebration, Rogers told TNT Sports: ‘Yeah, it’s true.’

Manchester United great Rio Ferdinand added: ‘He’s (Palmer) run with it as well, you’ve let him run with it. You need to start scoring goals!’

Despite being the original source for the celebration, Rogers felt Palmer’s remarkable record of 31 games in 53 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions allowed him to call it his own.

‘I’ll let him have it,’ Rogers said.

‘He’s scored 40 goals or something stupid. Can’t really argue with that, can I?’

When it comes to the celebration timeline, Rogers used it when he scored the winner for Middlesbrough in a Championship fixture against West Bromwich Albion on December 23 last year.

Palmer then used it a week later when Chelsea beat Luton Town 3-2, with the attacking midfielder bagging a double.

Rogers even used the celebration when he scored for Villa in a 2-2 draw against Chelsea last season and was immediately asked if he had copied Palmer.

The two are extremely close friends having played together in Manchester City’s youth teams

‘He definitely copied me,’ Rogers said after the match.

‘It’s my celebration. Check the timeline, I did it first.’

The pair are extremely close pals having featured together for Manchester City’s youth teams before Palmer moved on to Chelsea in 2023 while Rogers joined Middlesbrough.
