Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah is in advanced talks to sign a bumper, long-term new contract at Anfield.

The new deal would act as a reward for a stellar last 18 months that has seen him break into the first team from an academy player that was out on loan at Bristol Rovers.

Quansah played an integral role last season and started the first game of this campaign at Ipswich, showing that he is firmly in the plans of the club.

The 21-year-old also won his first England call-up in the summer and was highly rated by then manager Gareth Southgate, who asked Quansah to stay with the team for training even after he was cut from the final squad for the European Championship.

Newcastle also tried to sign Quansah this summer in a deal that would have seen Anthony Gordon go the other way. But Liverpool were staunchly against the idea of the defender leaving.

Liverpool are also keen to extend the deal of fellow defender Ibrahima Konate, who has been one of the Reds’ standout performers this season.

Newcastle had shown interest in the defender this summer, which would’ve seen Anthony Gordon go the other way

The Frenchman is not in advanced talks yet — any discussions are at a preliminary stage — but both parties are keen to extend their relationship.

Captain Virgil van Dijk’s future is still uncertain with his deal expiring at the end of this season alongside Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
